Default Need help learning the Em ropes

I've been playing GW for about 2 months now and have just gotten to Droks with my E/Me. Since the start, I've been playing a Nuker type of build, but honestly never really put any thought into what I loaded and how it affects my play. I don't usually carry a single energy/health spell along, instead relying on a Monk to heal me while I concentrate on dealing out max damage on a constant basis. When I run out of energy, I just use my wand until things perk up a bit. When my party starts to get in trouble, I'm screwed.

Obviously, this isn't an optimum build. I just started reading about farming as an Ele and started to realize that being an Ele doesn't mean I have to be dependent on a huge party to save my tush, nor should I be running out of energy in a long'ish battle. However, I'm still pretty energy/health management stupid.

So I'm looking for suggestions. I don't care what my second profession is, and I don't care what element family I choose from. My main concerns are:

1) Being helpful to my party - whether that be dealing out mass damage or somehow limiting the enemy's resources
2) Not running out of health or energy on a constant basis

If you have any suggestions, or links to good articles about where to start, I'd appreciate them.

These answers are assuming a basic nuking build.

1) Being helpful to your party - focus fire on things that are hindering them the most. Firstly monks, next possible necros or mesmers, and so on. Make sure these prime targets are your first choice for carnage.
2) Not running out of health - kite, kite, kite. If something starts coming for you, move out da way. Not running out of energy - Attunement. It is, imo, the best set of skills in the ele line. Assuming nuker, run [skill]Fire Attunement[/skill]. A lot of eles like to use [skill]Elemental Attunement[/skill] as their elite, you might want to consider it for massive energy gains.

Good luck. (:

You'll figure out how to best use the energy mgmt skills with usage. Like Nkah said, [skill]Elemental Attunement[/skill] + [skill]Fire Attunement[/skill] are likely the best choices to go with, especially for the less exerienced Nuker. Use these skills and try to keep them up as often as possible, and keep [skill]Aura of Restoration[/skill] on your bar as a cover enchantment. As you figure out the 'cadence' and develop a feel for the levels of your energy after numerous extended battles using these skills, try switching it up by using something like [skill]Glyph of Energy[/skill] and/or [skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill].

Good Luck!
